MSc-programme from 1st of September 2011
As of September 2011, the MSc Soil Science will be (together with ‘Hydrology and Water Quality’ & ‘Meteorology and Air Quality’), incorporated in the new MSc ‘Earth and Environment’. This rearrangement follows the growing recognition of the complex dependencies and relationships existing within the Earth System. More information about this new master can be found here.
The soil is one of our key resources. Chemical processes in the soil and microbiology influence soil fertility, but soil quality can also be strongly influenced by land use. Studying all aspects of the soil therefore is essential. Does this appeal to you? Perhaps the Master Soil Science is an excellent choice for you.
The programme
The Master of Science (MSc) Soil Science aims at learning how to describe, quantify and predict soil processes. You can do this in the fields of two specializations: Soil Quality en Land Science. Soil Quality focuses on the chemical and biological processes in the soil, whereas Land Science is focused on landscape dynamics and the effect of land use on soil quality. The Msc programme provides its students with knowledge and insights that are essential for the development of optimal, multifunctional and sustainable land use and soil quality management. It prepares students for a career as an academic professional or as a scientist. Academic professionals work as experts and consultants in soil remediation, soil evaluation, risk assessment or nutrient management.

Study association Pyrus
Pyrus is the study association for and by students Soil, Water, Atmosphere and related Master programmes, such as the Master Hydrology and Water Quality. Pyrus is an active and social association which organizes all kinds of events. For Master students, Pyrus organizes a Master dinner, to get to know your fellow students and students of related Masters. Next to this, Pyrus sends its members an e-mail every week, which contains relevant information with respect to job vacancies, thesis presentations and much more. So, being a member of Pyrus is not only very nice, it is very useful too! Take a look on their website for more information.
